Abstract

The history of Jesus testifies to two classes of family: the biological and the eschatological. It is a fact that during his public life Jesus was disengaged from the earthly family, as it is attested by the relation he maintained with his mother, Mary. He invested all his energy in congregating around himself the family of the children and brethren of the kingdom, in order to present it to the Father as a pleasing tribute in his eyes. For the sake of the family of God he expiated his life, even unto death. After the resurrection, his biological family becomes a fundamental part of the eschatological family. It occupies a significant role in the early primitive community of Jerusalem (Acts 1,14) and his own cousin brother (adelphos) Jacob (Me 6.3) succeeds in becoming the president of the mother community of Christianity itself.
