After defining the concepts of faith and reason that appear in the encyclical Fides et Ratio, the study presents the encounters and miusunderstandings of these two notions over the centuries. He also analyzes how the Pope in the encyclical makes a defense of philosophy and the need for the study of philosophy. Another aspect on which he focuses on which is to be highlighted in the enclyclical is the interaction between philosophy and theology. He concludes the first part by reaffirming the relationship between reason and truth, as he had already dealt with in Veritates Splendor. In a second shorter part, some aspects of Western culture are presented that show the presence and relevance of Christian thought today.
