Wisdom in Love: Philosophy in Action in St. Thomas of Villanova

El presente artículo profundiza en la comprensión que Santo Tomás de Villanueva tiene de la sabiduría y su relación con el amor, por una parte, y en cómo traduce dicha comprensión en acciones concretas, por otra. Esto se hace presente, sobre todo, en su labor pastoral, inspirada tanto en la sabiduría como en el amor en su doble dimensión. El artículo es de carácter expositivo, aunque se destaca la posible influencia de San Agustín para una mejor comprensión del pensamiento de Santo Tomás. Sus homilías constituyen la fuente exclusiva del estudio, que se mueve en torno a ciertas ideas clave (como sabiduría, conocimiento y amor). La intención es demostrar que las especulaciones filosóficas de Santo Tomás no son de naturaleza puramente teórica. Más bien se aplican a acciones concretas, constituyendo así un ejemplo de "filosofía en acción."
Se explica lo que motivaba a Santo Tomás de Villanueva a un nivel más profundo. Sus actos de generosidad no eran sino expresiones concretas de su amor a Dios y al prójimo y de la sabiduría que logró poseer bajo la guía de la fe. La fe y la razón se presentan como complementarias, la filosofía y la teología trabajan juntas, y ambas pueden guiar al hombre en su búsqueda y posesión de la sabiduría.
