Abstract

This paper consists of two parts. The first deals with objects and subjects, a Western dichotomy that does not hold sway among indigenous peoples, and which gives rise to infinite confusion. What Westerners call objects have intentionality, will and feelings for indigenous peoples. efforts to speak of “subjectivized objects” or “subjective objects,” in our view, do not reflect
phenomena such as that of the “murderous motocarro,” which we describe in this paper. The caesura ushered in by Modernity, with the clear separation between objects and subjects, obscures understanding of the type of situation we discuss here. in the second part, we follow Carlos Fausto’s suggestion of “familiarizing predation” and make some clarifications that we consider necessary and interesting. all of this is to enable us to understand why the Kukama speak of the “murderous motocarro”.
