Abstract

The international theological commission document "Synodality in the Life and Mission of the Church" (2018) is biblically based on the text of Acts 15, which it explains with relative extent. This text belongs to the second generation and reflects the consensus that has been obtained by that time, but omits differences and discussions that took place in the first generation. There were Christians who did not accept the decision not to impose circumcision on the Gentiles. Paul does not seem to have accepted the rules imposed on the Gentiles mentioned in the Lucan version of the Council. Acts 15 describes the final phase of a discernment process, but omits previous conflicting stages. Theologically and pastorally it is very instructive to know the complexity and difficulty of the key discernment of Christianity from the origins.
