In the story of the baptismal activity of Philip in Samaria (Acts 8:4-25) it is surprising that it is not explicitly linked to the granting of the Spirit, even though it is performed in the name of the Lord Jesus and as such constitutes a “legitimate” Christian baptism. Probably the text reflects one of the different baptismal praxis existing in the origins of Christianity and underlies here baptismal traditions proper of Hellenistic Christian groups, that Lucas collected and integrated in his pericope.
