Recent discussions have questioned again Peter’s stay and death in Rome. The literary sources are not as explicit as one would wish, so their assessment is controversial. Equally, the archaeological excavations do not throw light either to clarify the question. However, the fact that ancient traditions from geographical areas other than rome and that no other city, such as Jerusalem, claims close links with Peter, could be explained by a possible visit or bloody death of the apostle at Rome, without to be able to determine exactly how, or when. Therefore, other alternatives to the traditional location of his death are even more hypothetical and fictitious.
