Crises in priesthood are no novelty to the Church. Saint Augustine himself experienced them. Accounts of three such instances are found in his writings: one at the beginning of his ministry (Conf. 10,43,70), one at about half way through it (En. in. Ps. 54,8), and another towards its end (Ep. 209,10). This article examines the characteristics of each crisis and how the Saint overcome them.
