Is the formulation of justice as fairness advanced by J. Rawls sufficient enough to examine and resolve philosophical, social and religious issues of contemporary society? Despite its eminent ingenuity, A. Sen argues that Ra- wl’s perspective requires significant revision regarding positional justice and possible consequent outcomes. The alternative proposed by Sen builds Indian thought, realization- based comparison and achievable ends, aims at eradicating concrete injustice; it is hence a pragmatic theory.
