The Creed has often been presented as a prayer that Christians must know and recite. Less frequently it has been presented as a synthesis of the faith possessed, the faith known, the faith professed. In reality, this second perspective is the one that corresponds to it since its origins, and every Christian, every Christian community, has expressed its faith with similar phrases, similar, but not always identical. This is not a rupture of faith, but a richness of sincere expression.
The examination of a few of the more notable creeds allows us to reflect on them, comparing them, and to see how many ways it is possible to manifest the same faith with formulas that are different in their phrases, but identical in their deepest meaning. This is the richness of the Christian heritage.
