El episcopado monárquico como institución de poder en Hispania tardoantigua

Abstract

The study of the Church and the episcopate are today indispensable for the understanding of the Late Roman Empire, as well as for each of its dioceses and provinces. Thus, the aim is to offer a general vision of the figure of the bishop in the geographical framework of the Iberian Peninsula from the 4th to the 7th century, dealing firstly with the bases of his power and secondly making a pro-poeographic study of the main bishops of Hispania, demonstrating their full integration in the Hispano-Roman society as a new leading and binding elite of that society, as well as their projection in the political future of the Empire.
