The political conflict between the Governments of Holland and Indonesia over the annexation of West Nueva Guinea in 1961 became a threat to the future of the mission entrusted to the Augustinian Province of Holland. Fearing the expulsion of Dutch missionaries, Msgr. van Diepen, OSA, requested help, through the Prior General, from the Province of the Philippines. Its 1961 Provincial Chapter accepted the proposal and thereafter sent three volunteers to carry out the task during the period 1962-1968.This chronicle presents unpublished material that reconstructs the help offered by the Province of the Philippines during that period, based on the personal experience of the author in that mission.
