Abstract

The research is divided in six parts. Start indicating what should not be considered as a museum. Later, in a positive way, present the variety of definitions of “Museum” and the main tasks of those institutions: acquire, preserve, investigate, communicate,  exhibit,... The third chapter is related with the variety of Church’s museum, and their main purposes. The following chapter speaks about the museums of the religious orders as memory, testimony and prophecy. The next chapter indicate how at the variety of religious orders or congregations, correspond a variety of museums. Chapter six shows the guidelines that direct the renovation of San Agustin Museum in Manila, and the main idea: the idea of “Love”, that is at the centre of the message of Christ and is also the goal proposed by St. Augustine in his Rule. Each exhibition room is related with one aspect of these love: love for pilgrimage, love for silence, love for God, love for God’s glory, love for beauty, love for ancestors, love for nature, love for the mission, love for art, love for history, love for songs, love for prayer, love for music, love for wisdom, love for science,... The study is completed with 74 illustrations en colour related with the text.
