The Books of Government constitute a valuable source of information about the life of the Augustinians in the Philippines. In them we find minutes of the Chapters and Definitories, as well as determinations on particular matters of the own legislation of the Province and of the Order that govern the daily events of community and apostolic life. In addition, they provide us with precise and relevant dates and data on the erection of houses, the founding of towns, their ministers, etc. They constitute, therefore, a first and essential source for knowledge of Augustinian life and its impact on the missionary, social and cultural life of the Magellanic Archipelago.
