The administrators of the convents, once the years had passed, had the duty to draw up a book-protocol in which all the belongings owned by the religious community were reflected in a very detailed and updated manner. In general, these writings are a first-rate source for the study of a particular convent, since on many occasions, together with the rural and urban land holdings, censuses, etc., the authors also wrote in the first pages a brief history of the foundation, as well as the names of the people or patrons who paid for the first works, which were enlarged and embellished over time. In the case of the Protocol of the convent of San Agustín of Guadix (Granada), through the reading of its pages we can know not only the history of the origin of the Augustinian presence in this city, but also the economic management of the conventual patrimony, and the social influence of these friars on the acitana population.
