The books of religious professions are a source of first order documentary knowledge of the human, cultural and social characteristics of the members of a religious province. Throughout seven consecutive works each one of the books of professions that are conserved of the convent San Agustín de Zaragoza will be presented (1605-1834, except the seventh book, 1730-1799, for being lost) and the basic data of the professors : name (s) and surnames, what their parents were called, place of origin or birth, parish of baptism, date of religious profession, name of the prior (or subprior) of the house and of the Prior General of the Order of St. Augustine, who was the master of novices, and even the notary who attested to the fact of the profession. In turn, the minutes of profession offer other details of no less importance for the multifaceted task of the historian.This article deals with the fifth book of professions of the San Agustín de Zaragoza convent (1684-1700).
