The Santa Lucia convent of the calced Augustinians or Augustinian Hermits, located in Alzira, was founded in 1536, being the third female house of this Order. In general, it was a poor and humble monastery, with an average of twenty professed religious sisters. In 1940, owing to the ruinous state of the convent building after the Spanish Civil war, and because of the few remaining nuns, just six, this community joined that of the San Jose and Santa Tecla monastery in Valencia. As the first book of professions was lost, the discovery of the second (1806-1939) has enabled us to know 58 profession records of that time, containing personal and family information of each nun, place of provenance, previous occupations, and some other interesting facts. Besides, it has helped us find some relevant traits concerning the internal history of the Santa Lucia convent of the Augustinians along the last 130 years.
